Meet Our Tree-Planting Partner, Ecologi

As part of our Sustainability Pledge, we put ethical and responsible business practices above all else, which includes respecting our planet and taking on climate change. This is why we’ve partnered with Ecologi, an organization that plants trees on behalf of businesses and funds the world’s best climate crisis solutions.

How does it work?

Ivy Marie partners with Ecologi through its Shopify App to plant up to five trees for every single order. Ecologi works with The Eden Reforestation Projects to plant these trees – which adds up to millions of trees around the world each month. Ecologi is currently supporting the organization's work in Madagascar.

What are the benefits of planting trees?

Reducing our carbon footprint is entirely necessary to tackle the climate crisis, and planting trees helps us do just that. Through the natural process of photosynthesis, trees absorb carbon dioxide and other pollutants, which are driving global heating, store them and then emit pure oxygen. Scientific studies have shown that mangroves, which Eden Reforestation is currently planning in Madagascar, sequester carbon at a rate two to four times greater than mature tropical forests and contain the highest carbon density of all terrestrial ecosystems. Because trees are a quick way to soak up carbon emissions, environmentalists, politicians, and businesses alike are pushing for a rapid expansion of reforestation efforts to help meet climate goals.

How are the trees planted?

Eden Reforestation works carefully with all levels of government to secure written agreements designating the restoration sites as protected in perpetuity. The organization hires local villagers to plant the trees to help alleviate poverty within developing communities. It’s their mission to provide fair wage employment to impoverished villagers as agents of global forest restoration.

As of October 2021, the Ecologi community has planted over 22.5 million trees and helped remove 692 tonnes of CO2 – and we are very proud and grateful to be a part of this community working to restore our planet. Find out more about Ecologi at https://ecologi.com/
